Divorce attorneys in Pasadena have been hearing the rumors for months. The tabloids have reported the breakup for just as long. And now it looks like it's official: Actress Demi Moore and actor/entrepreneur Ashton Kutcher are getting a divorce.
The 49-year-old star of blockbusters like Ghost told the Associated Press on Thursday that she is in fact divorcing her husband of six years.
"It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton. As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life. This is a trying time for me and my family, and so I would ask for the same compassion and privacy that you would give to anyone going through a similar situation," according to her statement to the AP.
The announcement comes on the heels of rumors of Kutcher's alleged affairs, including the infamous hotel tryst with Sarah Leal. Leal spilled the details of her sexual encounters with Kutcher to dozens of online tabloids and was reportedly concerned that she may be pregnant with Kutcher's child.
The breakup comes as sad news to fans who saw the couple as an example of a harmonious pairing between an older woman and younger man. Although 16 years older than Kutcher, Moore had a sense of humor about being called a cougar and even poked fun at their age difference on Saturday Night Live. The couple was also often lauded for their friendly relationship with Moore's ex-husband of 13 years, actor Bruce Willis.
Moore has three daughters with Willis and the whole family, including Kutcher, would vacation and celebrate holidays together. Kutcher and Moore were married in September 2005.
